Munson First, 10 CMU Wrestlers Place, at Cleveland State Open

CLEVELAND – Ten Central Michigan wrestlers placed on Sunday at the Cleveland State Open.
No team scores were kept.
CMU's Corbyn Munson placed first at 157 pounds, going 5-0 on the day and defeating Marcus Robinson of Cleveland State, 4-0, in the title bout.
Munson, who is ranked 32nd nationally and No. 3 in the Mid-American Conference, upped his season record to 10-4. Robinson is ranked second in the MAC and 28thnationally.
Munson opened with a 6-2 win over Aiden Vandenbush of Northwestern, and then posted a 10-1 major-decision victory over Benny Rogers Spartan Combat. Munson followed with an 8-7 win over Shane Heil of Cleveland State and then posted a 13-5 major over Daniel Segura of Ohio in the semifinals.
CMU's Alex Cramer (174) placed second, while Grayson Sonntag (149) and Vince Perez (133) both finished third; Chandler Amaker (165), Mason Shrader (149) and Trenton Wachter (157) each placed fourth; Bryan Caves (285) and Cade Dallwitz (197) each finished fifth; and Sean Spidle (125) placed sixth.
Twenty-two CMU wrestlers partook in the tournament.
• Cramer fell to Michigan's Max Maylor, 7-5, in the 174 title match to finish 3-1 on the day. He opened with a pin in 2:51 of Chase Cordia of Clarion, and then won by medical forfeit over Marcus Petite of Buffalo. Cramer defeated West Virginia's Scott Joll, 10-5, in the semifinals.
• Sonntag opened with a 7-5 victory over unattached Noah Roulo and then downed Purdue's Christian Navida, 5-3. Sonntag then dropped a 9-4 decision to Cleveland State's Douglas Terry and then captured the third-place match via medical forfeit over Shrader.
• Shrader posted a 3-0 win over Jaden Reynolds of Purdue and then downed Joey Caprella of Cleveland State, 3-1. He fell to Jeff Boyd of West Virginia, 7-3, and then took a medical forfeit in the third-place match.
• Perez opened with a 7-0 victory over unattached Cole French and then downed Matt Ellis of Kent State, 7-3. Perez fell to Jake Manley of Cleveland State, 9-4, and then won the third-place match on a 7-2 decision over Ethan Qureshi of Spartan Combat.
• Amaker opened with a 3-1 win over Sevi Garza of Ashland and then downed Joseph Martin of Northwestern, 5-3. Amaker then dropped a 7-0 decision to unattached Bryce Hepner and then fell to Northwestern's Max Mayfield, 4-2, in the third-place match.
• Wachter opened the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Caleb Dowling of West Virginia and then followed with a 3-1 win over Purdue's Brennan Doyle and a 10-4 victory over Luke Baughman of Indiana. Wachter then fell to Cleveland State's Robinson, 7-6, and then dropped the third-place match, 8-5, to Ohio's Segura.
• Caves posted a 9-2 win over Cleveland State's Mason Cover in his opening bout, and then fell, 3-1, to Jacob Bullock of Indiana. Caves posted a pin in 1:34 of Cleveland State's Justin Jaeckin, defeated Hogan Swenski of Ohio State, 5-3, and in the fifth-place match posted a 5-3 win over Ashton Davis of Spartan Combat.
• Dallwitz opened with a 7-0 win over unattached Niccolo Colucci before falling, 11-4, to Michael Battista of Virginia. Dallwitz came back with a 6-4 win over Kent State's Spencer Vos, a pin in 4:22 over unattached Geoffrey Magin, and then downed Blake Schaffer of Kent State, 2-0, in the fifth-place match.
• Spidle downed Dom Lajoie of Cornell, 7-6, in his opening bout and then dropped a 3-1 decision to Andre Gonzales of Ohio State. Spidle came back to post a 15-0 technical-fall victory over Ryan King of King, a 4-1 win over Jace Schafer of West Virginia, and then a 6-0 win over Foster Cardinale of Spartan Combat. Spidle lost on a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.
The Chippewas are scheduled to compete in the Journeyman Collegiate Duals in New Orleans on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 19-20. They are slated to wrestle No. 21-ranked North Carolina and top-ranked Penn State on Dec. 19 and an opponent to be determined on Dec. 20.
