Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets at NIU

DEKALB, Ill. – The Central Michigan volleyball team fell in straight sets on Saturday to split a pair of weekend Mid-American Conference matches with Northern Illinois at the Huskies' Victor E. Court.
CMU is 16-10, 9-6 MAC, and tied for fourth place in the conference standings. The top six in the final standings earn a berth into the league tournament.
With three matches left on the regular season slate, the Chippewas are scheduled to host Western Michigan next weekend at McGuirk Arena. The first is on Friday, Nov. 11 (6 p.m.).
The Broncos are 16-11, 8-7 after sweeping a pair of weekend matches from Eastern Michigan. NIU is 15-10, 8-7.
The Chippewas maintained a combined .129 hitting percentage on Saturday against the Huskies as they fell, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22.
NIU out-blocked CMU, 16-4, and the Chippewas committed 20 attack errors to the Huskies' six.
Anna Erickson and Natalia Rejment led CMU with 10 kills each. Freshman setter Claire Ammeraal contributed 28 assists and sophomore libero Aly Gurtiza had 12 digs.
The Huskies used a pair of 4-0 runs in building an 18-11 lead in the first set and the Chippewas never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
Set 2 followed a similar script as NIU used a 5-1 spurt in gaining a 13-8 advantage and then broke away with a 7-1 run that made it 22-12.
The Chippewas managed to keep the third set closer, trailing by no more than three points throughout and hanging in at 19-21. The teams then traded 3-0 runs before the Huskies finished it on a Chippewa service error.
