Baseball Falls To Coastal Carolina, Wraps Up Season-Opening Weekend On Sunday Morning

CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina used a five-run sixth inning to push past Central Michigan, 8-4, on Saturday in a nonconference baseball game at the Chanticleers' Springs Brooks Stadium.

CMU (0-2) is set to wrap up its season-opening weekend in South Carolina against West Virginia on Sunday (11 a.m.). The Mountaineers (2-0) defeated Kent State, 8-3, on Saturday. West Virginia topped the Chippewas, 13-8, in the season opener for both teams on Friday.

The Chippewas led, 2-1, when the Chanticleers sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs on six hits off Chippewa reliever Garrett Navarra.

Navarra (0-1) allowed seven runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out five over three innings in taking the loss.

CMU starter Andrew Taylor allowed one run on four hits, struck out four and walked three over 4 1/3 innings.

Sophomore Jakob Marsee had three hits and drove in three runs to lead CMU at the plate. His second-inning two-run single gave the Chippewas a 2-1 lead.

Marsee had three hits and drove in four runs in Friday's opener against West Virginia. He is hitting .667 with one home run and seven RBI.
