Walter, Sumner assume new roles on baseball coaching staff
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Jonathan Vance has been promoted to pitching coach for the Central Michigan baseball program, coach Jake Sabol announced today.
Vance is entering his third year on Sabol's staff, coming to CMU from Northwood where he was on staff when Sabol served as the head coach.
"Coach Vance was a vital part of some of the improvements we showed as a pitching staff down the stretch during the 2026 season and I am excited to retain him on our staff in an elevated role as pitching coach," Sabol said. "With Jonathan leading our pitching staff, I am incredibly confident in our ability to build and maintain one of the most competitive pitching staffs in the Mid-American Conference."
Sabol has also shifted assistants Doug Walters and Justin Sumner to the roles of recruiting coordinator and hitting coach, respectively. Ely Stuart remains in the role as director of player development.
Both Walters and Sumner have been on Sabol's staff since Sabol was named to head the program ahead of the 2024 season. Stuart joined Sabol's staff after completing his eligibility with the Chippewas in 2024.
