2022 CMU Football Schedule
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The 2022 Central Michigan football season starts with a return to the site of one of the biggest triumphs in program history.
Football season tickets go on sale next Tuesday, March 1. Ticket can be purchased through Ticket Central at CMUChippewas.com or by calling (989) 774-3045.
The Chippewas, who finished 9-4 and won the Sun Bowl in 2021, open the season on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Oklahoma State in the Cowboys' Boone Pickens Stadium. It was there, on Sept. 10, 2016, that the Chippewas upset the No. 22-ranked Cowboys, 30-27, on a Hail Mary pass with no time remaining.
CMU will take on South Alabama on Sept. 10 – the first of seven consecutive Saturday games – in its home opener at Kelly/Shorts Stadium and then will entertain Football Championship Subdivision Bucknell on Sept. 17.
The Chippewas are then scheduled to go to Penn State on Sept. 24, marking CMU's second game against a Power 5 opponent.
Oklahoma State finished 12-2 last season, reaching the Big 12 Championship Game, defeating Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, and finishing seventh in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll; Penn State finished 7-6 a year ago, losing six of its final eight games capped by a loss to Arkansas in the Outback Bowl; South Alabama, which plays in the Sun Belt Conference, went 5-7 a year ago; Bucknell, which plays in the Patriot League, went 1-10 a year ago.
CMU, which shared the MAC West title with Northern Illinois last season, goes to Toledo on Oct. 1 in its Mid-American Conference opener, the first of CMU's eight straight MAC games.
The Chippewas entertain Ball State on Oct. 8, go to Akron on Oct. 15, play host to Bowling Green on Oct. 22 and then have a bye week on Oct. 29.
The Chippewas' next three games are scheduled for mid-week MACtion as they go to defending league champion Northern Illinois on Nov. 2; entertain Buffalo on Nov. 9 and then host rival Western Michigan (Nov. 16) before closing the regular season at Eastern Michigan on Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving.
Seven of the Chippewas' 2022 opponents played in bowl games last season, including Toledo (Bahamas Bowl), Western Michigan (Quick Lane Bowl), Eastern Michigan (Lending Tree Bowl), Ball State (Camellia Bowl) and NIU (Cure Bowl).
