Diebold scores career-high 6 goals in victory
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Maggie Diebold scored six goals on Wednesday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team defeated Akron, 13-7, in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.
Â
CMU (5-5), which outshot the Zips, 37-15, improved to 3-1 MAC.
Â
Diebold's six goals are a career high, and her goal total tied for the fourth most in program history. Diebold, who leads CMU with 29 goals this season, scored five times in the first half in helping the Chippewas to a 12-2 halftime lead.
Â
Kelly Hoyt scored three goals while Courtney Burke added two.
Â
"When we had that fast ball movement and we have people moving without the ball as well, that's when we are most successful," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "In the first half I think you really saw that momentum and that's what their capable of. Playing nice and fast, together, playing with each other, we just have to stick with that for 60 minutes."
Â
The Chippewas not only had more shots than the Zips, but more assists, ground balls, and caused turnovers.
Â
"We love teaching fundamentals," Tisdale said. "You see us play a great man-to-man (defense) consistently and we pride ourselves in that."
Â
Alexa Martel earned a win in goal, making four saves.
Â
Central Michigan travels to Marquette on Sunday, March 27 (1 p.m.) for a nonconference game. CMU will then travel to Youngstown State on Saturday, April 2 (1 p.m.) for a MAC game.
