LORETTO, Pa. -- Kendall Hoyt scored five goals on Friday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team defeated Saint Francis, 18-6, in a nonconference game at DeGol Field.
Â
It was the third straight victory for CMU (3-2), and the second straight game with 18 goals.
Â
Maggie Diebold and Amanda Hilderbrandt both had three goals for the Chippewas, who outshot the Red Flash 30-17. Hilderbrandt also finished with three assists.
Â
"I'm really proud of the leadership we saw on the field," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "I challenged (the upperclassman) to really show that they were ready to take on the field roles and truly understood the game plan."
Â
Eight Chippewas scored at least one goal, while 11 players registered at least one shot. CMU has scored 42 goals in its past three games.
Â
"Our scoring over the last three games, you see a variety of names, and it could be anybody's game on any day," Tisdale said. "That's what makes us really hard to stop."
Â
This was the second straight game in which Central Michigan never trailed. CMU established an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter, upped it to 11-4 at halftime, and increased it to 16-5 after the third quarter.
Â
Central Michigan outshot Saint Francis in every quarter and improved to 3-0 all-time against the Red Flash.
Â
Erin Owens made six saves in goal in the win, improving to 3-2.
Â
The Chippewas return home to play eighth-ranked Michigan (6-0) on Sunday (1 p.m.) in a nonconference game and then will host Kent State on Thursday, March 10 (3 p.m.), in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Lacrosse Complex.
