Softball Falls At No. 24 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – All the scoring came in the fourth inning on Tuesday as 24th-ranked Michigan downed Central Michigan, 5-1, in a nonconference softball game at the Wolverines' Alumni Field.
The Chippewas (16-17) return to Mid-American Conference play with a three-game series at Ohio beginning on Friday.
Kelsey Alexander gave CMU a 1-0 lead with her fifth home run of the season in the top of the fourth.
The Wolverines responded in the bottom half, getting their first run on a bases-loaded walk and then Melina Livingston hit a grand slam to complete the scoring.
Kaitlyn Bean (4-8) went 3 1/3 innings in taking the loss. She allowed four runs on four hits, walked four, and struck out two. Grace Lehto went the final 2 2/3 frames. She surrendered one run on four hits, walked one, and struck out one.
The Chippewas collected five hits including a double by Shannon Stein. CMU stranded seven base runners, including three in the first inning.
Winning pitcher Lauren Derkowski allowed one run on four hits over four innings. Annabelle Widra threw the final three frames for the Wolverines.
