KENT, Ohio. – Three Chippewas finished with a hat trick on Saturday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team defeated Kent State, 14-10, in a Mid-American Conference game at Dix Stadium.
Central Michigan (8-6) improved to 6-1 in MAC play. CMU outscored the Golden Flashes, 11-6, in the middle two quarters.
"We made some adjustments on the draw circle that really helped us gain possession at the beginning of the second half," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "Our shot selection early on in the second half was really strong."
Audrey Whiteside, Maggie Diebold and Reagan Martinsen each scored three goals. CMU had seven goal scorers and finished with a 32-23 edge in shots.
It was the Chippewas' fourth consecutive MAC win. They trail first-place Robert Morris by one game. CMU entertains Youngstown State on Monday (noon) and then plays host to Robert Morris on Saturday, April 23 (1 p.m.). The Colonials are 8-0 in conference games.
"The end of the season can be viewed two ways -- stressful with some overwhelming emotions and overwhelming tasks," Tisdale said, "Or viewed as an opportunity to really enjoy this time together. This team plays at their best when they're playing together and there having a lot of fun doing it."
Alexa Martel made a career-high eight saves for the win in Saturday's game.
