YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Maggie Diebold scored a career-high seven goals and Brennan Paddy had a record-setting day on Saturday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team defeated Youngstown State, 20-11, in a Mid-American Conference game at Farmers National Bank Field.
Â
Central Michigan (6-6) improved to 6-6, 4-1 conference scoring 20 goals for the seventh time in program history. The game was tied, 8-8, at halftime; CMU outscored the Penguins, 12-3, in the second half.
Â
"Our chemistry took a little bit of time to develop today," said CMU coach Sara Tisdale, as the Chippewas trailed, 8-5, with just over two minutes remaining in the half. "The biggest change was shooting a little sooner when our hands are free and shooting with confidence."
Paddy set the CMU program record with 13 draw controls to go along with five goals and three assists. The previous record for draw controls in a single game was Anna Schoonover with 12 against Wofford in 2018.
Â
Diebold's seven goals tied for the third most in a game in program history. Diebold, who leads CMU with 40 goals this season, scored six of her goals in the second half. The Chippewas finished with a 41-20 edge in shots.
Â
"Maggie is one of those people who has just worked extremely hard," Tisdale said. "She brings so much to this team in general because of her personality and spark, and today she just saw the field really well."
Â
Audrey Whiteside and Kelly Hoyt notched two goals apiece as eight Chippewas scored in the game.
Â
Alexa Martel made seven saves in goal to earn the win.
Â
"This team genuinely cares about each other, and I think it shows on the field," Tisdale said.
Â
Central Michigan returns home for a MAC game against Detroit Mercy on Saturday, April 9 (1 p.m.). The Chippewas then travel to Kent State for another league game on Saturday, April 16.
