Track & field standout to be honored at CMU-Bucknell football game
Central Michigan track & field standout Olivia Hankey has been named the Dick Enberg Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
Â
Hankey, a graduate student from Waterford, earned a bachelor of science degree in May with a major in exercise science and a minor in nutrition. She is pursuing a master's of science degree in exercise kinesiology with the intent of attending physician's assistant school.
Â
Hankey will be introduced during an on-field ceremony on Saturday at the CMU-Bucknell football game, which kicks off at 1 p.m. on Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Â
The award goes annually to a student-athlete who carries a grade point average of 3.20 or better, has performed with distinction in their sport, and is considered a team leader.
Â
It is named in memory of the late Dick Enberg, an esteemed sports broadcaster and CMU alumnus.Â
Â
Last spring, Hankey placed second in three events, the heptathlon, the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay, at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in the heptathlon.
Â
She earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and is a multi-time Academic All-MAC honoree in both indoor and outdoor track & field.
