MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan student-athlete Tracy Hubbard has been named the recipient of the Bill Boyden Leadership Award.
Hubbard, a senior from Macomb, is a four-year member of the Central Michigan wrestling program who has posted a 53-39 career record, including a 23-11 mark last season when he placed fourth at 165 pounds at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
A sport management major with a double minor in leadership and family studies, Hubbard is highly involved with his church and possesses a wide array of musical talents, including singing, playing the piano, playing the drums, and playing the guitar.
His goal is to attend graduate school and work to become an academic coordinator or athletic director. He credits his faith and his mentors for who he is today, and he wants to continue to represent CMU and mentor other students from his hometown.
Hubbard will be presented his award during the CMU-South Alabama football game on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
The award was established in memory of W.B. "Bill" Boyden, a 1935 CMU graduate who was a football and track and field standout. He held the school record in the 100-yard dash and was named the most valuable backfield man during his senior year on the football team and his life and accomplishments demonstrated a unique blend of athletic ability, leadership, business acumen, participation in the arts, and an extraordinary involvement in community activities.
Boyden volunteered countless hours for CMU, reflecting great pride in his alma mater. He was a longtime member of the University Development Board and is acknowledged as the initial driving force behind the construction of Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
