Chippewas look to Mid-American Conference Championships in two weeks
ANN ARBOR – The Central Michigan wrestling team closed the 2022-23 dual meet season on Sunday with a 30-9 loss at No. 11 Michigan at the Wolverines' Crisler Center.
The Chippewas finished 6-10 in duals including 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference, repeating as the MAC West champion.
CMU next will head to the MAC Championships in Fairfax, Va. March 3-4.
CMU won three matches against the Wolverines. Johnny Lovett took a 12-5 victory from Chance Lamer at 149 pounds; Alex Cramer (174) defeated Joseph Walker, 8-7; and Cameron Wood (197) downed Brendin Yatooma, 4-2.
It was the seventh consecutive victory for Lovett, a redshirt junior who improved to 15-9 on the season. He has won eight of his last nine and 10 of his last 13 matches.
Cramer, also a redshirt junior who is ranked 32nd nationally by Intermat, won for the 13th consecutive time and for the 15th time in his last 16 matches in improving to 25-8.
Wood snapped a seven-match losing streak in improving to 10-19.
The Wolverines recorded bonus points, including two pins, in five of their wins.
