CMU tied for eighth place after first round of 54-hole tournament
RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Ashley Goh shot an even-par 72 and Casilda Allendesalazar shot a 1-over 73 on Friday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the first round of the Rio Verde Invitational on the Quail Run Course at Rio Verde Country Club.
The Chippewas shot a 20-over 308 and are in a four-way tie for eighth place in the 18-team field. They trail seventh-place Illinois State by one shot.
Xavier shot 293 and leads the tournament by three shots over second-place California Baptist and by five over defending champion Kennesaw State.
Goh is in third place, two shots behind leader Samantha Dizon of California Baptist. Allendesalazar is among a group tied for fourth.
Goh's round included three birdies against one bogey and one double bogey; Allendesalazar made three birdies and four bogeys.
CMU's Rachel Kauflin shot 81 on Friday and is tied for 73rd, while Zoe Vartyan shot 82 and is tied for 80th. The Chippewas' Padgett Chitty shot 83 and is tied for 83rd in the 93-player field.
The second round is scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET. The third and final round is set for Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
