Chippewas finish practice No. 8 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—The Central Michigan Football program worked through its first scrimmage of 2023 spring drills on Friday during a rainy and overcast morning at Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Contested in 41-degree weather with sporadic rain, the structured scrimmage featured a variety of in-game situations on both offense and defense. CMU also practiced through a variety of special teams under game-speed conditions. Referees were called in and a play clock was used.
All three quarterbacks—Jase Bauer, Bert Emanuel Jr., and Tyler Pape—took snaps, ran various offensive series, and completed passes. The running backs all had multiple reps.
The offense scored several touchdowns including a pass from Bauer to Myles Bailey and a spectacular run by Thomas Pannunzio. Other offensive highlights included a long run by Marion Lukes and a variety of receptions by Tyson Davis, Langston Lewis, Chris Parker, and Irone Jackson, among others.
The defense also made a variety of plays, including sacks by Jacques Bristol and Kade Kostus, a pass breakup by Donte Kent, and other nice plays by Trey Jones, Kyle Moretti, and Justin Whiteside.
CMU also went through a variety of special teams situations including field goals, punts, punt and kickoff returns, and PATs. Those kicks featured placekickers Josh Rolston and Tristan Mattson, and punter Jake Walrath.
Central Michigan has hit the halfway point of its spring practice schedule as seven sessions and one scrimmage remain through April 14.
