Paupore Wins Again; CMU Men Seventh At Mel Brodt Collegiate

Chippewa women fourth, men seventh at BGSU meet
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. — Emily Paupore found her pace and stuck to it on Friday as she posted her second win of the season at Bowling Green's Mel Brodt Collegiate Open, highlighting Central Michigan Cross Country's performances.
Paupore, a redshirt junior, finished the 6k in 20:49.7, one second shy of her personal best and eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The CMU women placed fourth of ten teams with 94 points. Out of 110 finishers, senior Natalie Newcombe placed 16th with a personal-best 21:52.4 finish, followed by Anya Turner (19th), Kara Terakedis (38th) and Kate Jenkins (46th). Jenkins, a sophomore, beat her personal record by eight seconds.
Ethan Leitner led the Chippewa men with a 29th place finish, pacing the team to its seventh place finish with 172 points. Joey Taverna placed 34th followed by Blake Chipman (40th), Aiden Smith (53rd), Gabe Goosen (54th) and Carson White (55th).
The men's race, an 8k, was comprised of eight teams and 103 runners.
The Chippewas will head to South Bend, Ind. on Friday, Sept. 29 to compete in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite.
