Amy Folan's Maroon & Gold Memo: Investing in Success
1/29/2024 3:47:00 PM | General, Our Stories
A new year often brings new beginnings. For CMU Athletics, it means continuing our tremendous investment in student athletes.
Â
Over the past couple of years, the CMU Athletics team has focused on three strategic areas — enhancing the student-athlete experience, creating an exceptional fan experience and being leaders in the MAC in everything we do. We began work last summer to advance these priorities through a strategic planning effort, which then expanded in cohesion with the university's new five-year strategic plan, approved by the Board of Trustees in September.
Â
Our work aligns closely with the university's priorities, which include student and community success and university culture and sustainability. Our shared goals focus on supporting and creating immersive opportunities for CMU students, enhancing community engagement and focusing on organizational culture.
Â
We've taken a deep dive into how we'll continue to grow and improve CMU Athletics for our student-athletes, our fans and the university. Now we'll work to generate the additional investment of time, talent and treasure that's necessary to bring our goals to life.
Â
We'll share more in coming months about exciting opportunities to make a difference in the lives of CMU student athletes and the success of CMU Athletics.

Winter sports in full swing
Our winter sports season kicked off with men's and women's basketball in November, followed by gymnastics, wrestling and women's indoor track and field. Here's what's you have to look forward to:

Our winter sports season kicked off with men's and women's basketball in November, followed by gymnastics, wrestling and women's indoor track and field. Here's what's you have to look forward to:
- The first home gymnastics meet is Feb. 9 vs. Ball State in McGuirk Arena.
- Wrestling hosts Ohio Feb. 4 and Buffalo Feb. 11, then wraps up its regular season with the Michigan Wolverines in McGuirk Arena on Feb. 25.
- Women's basketball will play Louisiana — for the first time in program history — for the home portion of the 2023-24 Mid-American Conference-Sun Belt Conference Challenge Feb. 10. Yes, that's here in Mount Pleasant!
- We're excited to bring the toilet paper toss to McGuirk Arena again this year at our game vs. rival Western Michigan on Feb. 17. Fans who purchase a ticket to the men's basketball toilet paper toss game will receive a free ticket to the women's basketball game vs. Kent State earlier that afternoon. Get your tickets here.
