BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Natalia Rejment had 17 kills including three late in the decisive fifth set on Friday as the Central Michigan volleyball team topped Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference match.
It was a bounce-back win for CMU, which dropped four-setter on Thursday at Toledo, and it kept the Chippewas among the front-runners in the MAC at 5-2, one-half game behind first-place Buffalo. CMU improved to 14-5 overall.
Krystina Kasson added 13 kills and Lauren Schrock had 10 for CMU, which won the first set, 25-21, and the third, 25-20. The Falcons (10-8, 5-2 MAC) won the second set, 25-18, and the fourth, 25-15.
The Chippewas made 27 attack errors and finished with a .215 attack percentage. The Falcons attacked at .263. CMU overcame a season-high 16 attack errors.
"Even though we made a fair number of mistakes, they were the type of mistakes that we can live with because they opened up the door for us to win," CMU coach Mike Gawlik stated. "We are playing to win; we're not playing to keep it close."
CMU trailed just once at 5-4 in the fifth set. With the match tied, 11-11, the Chippewas reeled off four of the next five points. Rejment had three kills in the match-ending surge.
CMU setter Allie Korba finished with 46 assists and Grace Thomas led the Chippewas with six blocks and three aces. Hannah Langton paced CMU's defense with 14 digs.
The Chippewas return to McGuirk Arena next weekend to entertain Western Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Northern Illinois on Friday, Oct. 18.
