Dobrowolski scores first of the season, Walker punches in set piece opportunity late
KENT, Ohio — Central Michigan Soccer dropped a second Mid-American Conference match Sunday afternoon, 3-1, at Kent State.
Â
Jaelyn Dobrowolski (Traverse City, Mich. / T.C. West) tallied her first goal of the season, in her second start, in the 12th minute from well outside the 18'. The Chippewas (4-6-4, 2-2-3 MAC) collected a backfield turnover by the Golden Flashes (6-5-2, 3-3-1 MAC) for the fifth-year forward to settle and strike from her left foot.
Â
Lauren Walker (Essexville, Mich. / Garber) marked her third of the season in the 80th minute, finishing a set piece opportunity served in from the left sideline by Claudia Muessig (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw). Walker had another great chance just minutes before as she collected a bouncing service but was taken to the ground in the box without a foul call.
Â
Muessig added one last look on-goal for the Chippewas on another free kick straight on from 30 yards with just over a minute to play, marking the Flashes' first save of the contest.
Â
Kent State capitalized on its first corner of the contest, heading in the seal-breaker less than 90 seconds into the contest. Dobrowolski's answer held for a 1-1 halftime score. The Flashes regained the lead less than 75 seconds after intermission from a one-on-one opportunity at the left corner of the 18', then sealed it with a penalty goal in the 63rd minute after a point-blank cross led to a handball foul in the area.
Â
Sunday marked the first time in 2024 that the Chippewas scored twice in a loss and the second time they allowed a third goal in a match this season, despite a non-conference schedule that featured four power-conference opponents, two of which have appeared in the United Soccer Coaches national ranks in multiple weeks this season.
Â
Central Michigan Soccer returns to the CMU Soccer Complex Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Bowling Green.
