Allie Korba, Grace Thomas and Hannah Langton earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Awards
Mount Pleasant, Mich. — After a complete sweep of both Western Michigan and NIU, three Chippewas earned MAC Weekly award honors. Allie Korba was named setter of the week, Grace Thomas earned offensive player of the week, while Hannah Langton was named defensive player of the week for the second time this season.
All three Chippewas contributed to their teams' success in monumental ways on both Friday and Saturday night.
Allie Korba was an absolute workhorse for the Chippewas in their back-to-back sweeps. Korba tallied 76 assists in the six sets (12.67/set) as the Chippewas hit an outstanding .347 over the two matches. In the second match, against NIU, the Chippewas charted a .424 hitting percentage as a team.
Grace Thomas was a powerhouse for the Central Michigan offense in their two victories. The the freshman killed 16 balls hitting .667. Thomas surpassed her previous career high of nine with the 16 kills. She tallied a cumulative .595 hitting percentage over the six straight set victories for CMU with 22 total kills (3.67/set). Thomas found success as well blocking four balls in the wins for CMU.
Freshman libero Hannah Langton continued to be a sense of calm for the Chippewa defense. In the two victories, Langton tallied 28 digs, 4.67/set. Central Michigan hit .347 over the two sets, much to the aid of their first ball contact and the benefit of Langton in the backcourt for CMU.
The Chippewas will host Buffalo on Friday and Saturday, October 25th and 26th inside McGuirk Arena. CMU and Buffalo are tied for first place in the Mid-American Conference, both at 7-2. The team will celebrate "pride night" on Friday, first serve is set for 6 p.m. and on Saturday at 4 pm, the Chippewas will host their annual Autism Acceptance game.
