Gawlik Earns AVCA Region Coach of the Year Honors

Mike Gawlik becomes the first coach in Central Michigan Volleyball history to earn the Region Coach of the Year award by the AVCA
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former Central Michigan Volleyball Head Coach Mike Gawlik was named 2024 North Region Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Gawlik is the first coach in program history to earn the honor. Central Michigan finished second in the Mid-American Conference after a historic 24-6 regular season, the fifth 20-win season in the last two decades.
The Chippewas earned seven post season honors, a new program record.
Allie Korba was named MAC Setter of the Year, becoming the first in program history. Natalia Rejment and Korba were named First Team All-MAC while Grace Thomas and Abby Olin earned Second Team All-MAC honors. Thomas and libero, Hannah Langton, also earned spots on the All-Freshman Team. Olin was also named to the All-MAC Tournament team.
The Chippewas were never swept in 2024 and won the first set in 20 of their 31 matches.
Central Michigan hit .241 as a team with four attackers hitting above .225 in MAC play.
Olin set the program's single-season solo block record with 36 and totaled 115 total blocks on the season. Central Michigan totaled 265.5 blocks, good for fifth best in the conference.
The Chippewas led the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.175), opponent assists (10.87/set), opponent kills (11.52/set), opponent service aces (1.10/set). CMU finished second in the conference with 12.58 assists/set, 13.54 kills/set, and 15.37 digs/set.
