Paupore notches 48th-place finish in competitive 161-runner field
BOSTON, Mass.— Central Michigan Track and Field's Emily Paupore opened her season on a strong note on Saturday, running the competitive 5000m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.
Paupore, fresh off an appearance at the 2024 Cross Country National Championship in Madison, Wis., shaved 16 seconds from her personal best in the event, in which she earned an Indoor Mid-American Conference Championship title in February.
She finished 48th in a field of 161 runners with a time of 16:00.20, which set a new time for the CMU Women's Indoor 5000m record.
Alabama's Doris Lemngole won the race in 14:52.57, setting the NCAA Women's Indoor 5000m record, previously set in March by Florida runner Parker Valby.
CMU looks onward to the Jack Skoog Open to ring in the New Year on January 17th, one of two hosted meets for the indoor track and field season.
