Chippewas win four matches, including a pin by redshirt freshman Kellan Aure
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Central Michigan wrestling team won four matches on Sunday in dropping a 27-15 nonconference dual meet to No. 20 Little Rock at the Trojans' Jack Stephens Center.
The Chippewas (0-3) return to the mat at the Midlands Championships in Hoffman Estates, Ill. on Dec. 29-30.
CMU got decision victories from Kaden Chinavare (125 pounds), Alex Cramer (174) and Bryan Caves (285) and a pin from Kellan Aure (141).
Little Rock won six matches, three of them by pin. Two of the Trojans' other victories came in sudden victory.
Aure, a redshirt freshman, pinned Cole Minnick in the third period. It was Aure's first career dual meet victory.
The victory for Chinavare, a redshirt freshman, was also the first of his career in a dual meet. He defeated Tyson Roach, 9-5, leading all the way after a second-period escape followed by a takedown with under five seconds remaining in the period.
Cramer, a graduate student who is ranked 17th nationally by InterMat and 15th by FloWrestling, scored a 4-1 win over Tyler Brennan in one of the dual's most exciting and tightly contested matches of the dual.
Cramer scored a third-period escape to take a 1-0 lead. The match went to sudden victory tied, 1-1, because Brennan earned a riding-time point. Cramer then scored a takedown with 53 seconds remaining in the overtime.
Caves captured a tough 2-0 decision from Apollo Gothard. Caves took a 1-0 lead with a second-period escape and then rode Gothard for the entire third period for the riding-time point.
