DePrado steps up for a hat trick as six Chippewas find the back of the net, Martel marks season-high saves
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Lacrosse dropped its home-opener, 15-9, to visiting Canisius Sunday afternoon at the CMU Lacrosse Complex.

The Chippewas started hot as Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) drew first blood in the first minute for the first of her three goals on the day, then assisted Hanna Wenger's (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland) second of the season for a 2-0 lead in the first 90 seconds. The Griffins responded with six unanswered in the first quarter.

DePrado broke up the Canisius streak with her second with over 10 minutes left in the second, then completed her second hat trick of the season with a free position goal late in the fourth.

Reagan Martinsen (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach) and Sandy Edwards (Stuart, Fla. / Jensen Beach) each picked up two points in the third as Edwards opened the second-half scoring for CMU, then assisted the first of two Martinsen goals in the period.

Natalie DiSanto (Waterloo, N.Y. / Waterloo) marked the first goal of her Chippewa career Sunday with 9:11 to go in the fourth. Celia Dow (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) finished the scoring in the final minute for her second of the season.

Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) racked up a season-high 12 saves on the afternoon, her 14th double-digit performance in her career and third of 2024.

Central Michigan Lacrosse will stay home to host No. 20 Colorado at the CMU Lacrosse Complex Thursday. First draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
