SILLWATER, Okla. – An early deficit and a strong pitching performance proved too much for the Central Michigan baseball team on Saturday as the Chippewas dropped an 8-1 nonconference game to Oklahoma State at the Cowboys' O'Brate Stadium.
The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for Sunday (2 p.m.).
Oklahoma State (6-4) built a 5-0 lead through two innings and the Chippewas (3-8) managed just three hits off Cowboy starter Brian Holiday (1-0), who struck out nine and walked two over eight innings.
Cole Prout finished with two hits to lead CMU at the plate.
Keegan Batka (0-2) started for CMU and took the loss. He allowed seven runs on nine hits, struck out seven and walked three over five innings. Ben Vitas and Jonah Milchuck pitched in relief.
The Chippewas got their lone run on a Jake Brill sacrifice fly in the third inning.
