Softball Falls to Villanova at USF Tournament

Central Michigan fell to Villanova in the second game of the USF Tournament on Saturday morning. The game ended in five innings on a run-rule finish.
TAMPA, Fla. – Villanova recorded nine hits to the Chippewas one in their battle on Saturday morning. In the first inning, Villanova charted six runs on three hits. In that same opening inning, six Wildcats reached base via walk.

The six-run inning would be the largest scoring inning for Villanova in the game. The Wildcats were held to two in the second via a home run, and another batter walked home. In the third and fourth innings, Villanova charted one run each to reach their final 10 runs.

Skylar Coberley recorded the lone hit for CMU in the bottom of the fourth after Abbey Tolmie drew a five-pitch walk. Those would be the lone baserunners for the Chippewas in the outing.

Junior Madelyn Wallace took the start for the Chippewas and faced six batters; Wallace walked three of those batters. Cierra Laska entered in relief in the first to face 12 batters where she issued two hits and walked another four Wildcats. Mackenzie Langan entered in the second inning to relieve Laska. Langan faced the final 16 batters for the Chippewas and recorded three strikeouts.

Central Michigan struck out eight times in the outing compared to the three for the Wildcats – all recorded by Langan. Her first career strikeout came against Villanova's catcher.

The Chippewas will face Louisville and host USF on Sunday. First pitch against the Cardinals is slated for 9:30 a.m. followed by the game with the Bulls at 2:30 p.m.
