Baseball Drops a Heartbreaker in Series Finale at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday in handing Central Michigan a 6-5 loss in the finale of a Mid-American Conference baseball series at the Eagles' Oestrike Stadium.
The Eagles took two of three from the Chippewas, and both of their victories came in walk-off fashion. On Thursday, they scored three runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth for a 5-4 win. The Chippewas won on Friday, 8-5.
CMU entertains Grace Christian in a nonconference game on Tuesday, April 2 (3 p.m.) on Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.
Bryce Hellgeth (1-3), the third Chippewa pitcher, took the loss. CMU starter Ben Vitas allowed one run on four hits and struck out two over seven innings.
CMU led, 5-1, entering the bottom of the ninth when Eastern got a single, a walk and a two-run double off reliever Quin Konuszewski to draw to 5-3.
Hellgeth relieved Konuszewski. A hit batter and a walk loaded the bases and then Logan Hugo hit a two-run single to tie the game, 5-5. Aidan Arbogast followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home the winning run.
Nick Dardas doubled twice and drove in two runs to lead CMU at the plate, while Danny Wuestenfeld and Jacob Donahue each singled and doubled.
Wuestenfeld, who extended his hitting streak to seven games, finished with two RBI, giving him six on six hits in the series.
