Softball Drops Two to Miami (OH) in Saturday Doubleheader

Eleven homeruns for the Miami (OH) RedHawks were the sealing factor in the two dropped games for CMU.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Softball dropped two games to Miami (OH) on Saturday. The Chippewas fall to 12-26 over all and 9-7 in the MAC, while the RedHawks advance to 36-6 and 18-0 in the MAC. In game one, CMU fell 0-16 to Miami (OH) and in game two, the final was 6-15 in favor of the RedHawks.
In game one, Miami (OH) struck for seven homeruns, scoring 14 of their 16 runs via long ball. In the first inning, the RedHawks scored seven runs, 6 issued by Grace Lehto, who lasted .2 innings after taking the start for the Chippewas. Cierra Laska entered in relief in the first inning going three innings, facing 22 batters, allowing nine runs on eight hits. Emma DeBoer made her first career appearance for the Chippewas going 1.1 innings, facing seven batters, recording two strikeouts. DeBoer's two Ks of the day were the high in game one for any Chippewa pitcher.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Allyssa Hollo grabbed the lone hit for CMU in the game when she doubled down the left field line. Hollo was stranded at second in the inning after reaching with no outs.
Brooklyn Compau started the second game for CMU and struck out the five of the first six batters faced and sat down the first 9 batters she faced. Three scoreless innings for the RedHawks after CMU scored three in the second and two in the third gave the Chippewas a 5-0 lead heading to the fourth.
In the second inning, a single up the middle from Michaleigh Vallimont cleared the loaded bases giving CMU the 3-0 lead. Skylar Coberley reached on an error, Grace Koenig Walked and Emma Lotus singled to load the bases for the Chippewas.
The two runs in the third inning came from an Emma Lotus triple that scored Angela Petrovitch, who entered as a pinch runner for Allyssa Hollo. Hollo reached on her second double of the day. Central Michigan's fifth run of the game, and last of the day, scored when Michaleigh Vallimont reached on an error scoring Lotus.
Mackenzie Langan took over in the circle for CMU in the fourth inning after Miami (OH) scored seven runs off four hits in the fourth inning. Langan relieved Compau and threw for two innings, facing 11 batters, striking out one and allowing four runs on five hits. Madelyn Wallace finished the day for the Chippewas in the circle, facing the final 12 batters where she issued four runs on five hits.
In game two, Miami (OH) hit four home runs, bringing their total on the day to 11.
Central Michigan will be back in action to close out the series on Barbie Day, Sunday at noon at Margo Jonker Stadium.
