Early Deficit Too Much for Baseball to Overcome in Loss at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State built a 4-0 lead through two innings on Saturday in handing Central Michigan a 6-4 loss in a Mid-American Conference baseball game at the Cardinals' First Merchants Ballpark.
The teams conclude their three-game series on Sunday (1 p.m.).
Ball State outhit the Chippewas, 13-6. The Cardinals collected seven hits in scoring four runs in their first two turns at bat off Jonah Milchuck (0-1), who was making his first start in a CMU uniform.
Danny Wuestenfeld hit his sixth homer of the season, a solo shot, in the fourth for CMU. Wuestenfeld, who has 20 career homers, ashares the team lead in home runs with Ely Stuart.
Jake Brill and Spencer Verburg each doubled for the Chippewas.
Jack Bell, Bryce Hellgeth, Evan Waters and Jack Bach pitched in relief for CMU, which crept to within 6-4 with a run in the eighth on a Marquis Jackson RBI single.
Brill then walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but Jacob Donahue grounded out to end the threat.
