Six quarterbacks led by Bert Emanuel, Jr. and Joe Labas prepare for the 2024 season.
MOUNT PLEASANT—Led by redshirt sophomore Bert Emanuel, Jr. and junior transfer Joe Labas, Central Michigan will enter the season with a deep and talented quarterback room. Six quarterbacks are on the Chippewas' roster, including one junior, a sophomore, two redshirt freshmen, and two true freshmen.
Last year, Central Michigan quarterbacks completed 56 percent of their passes and combined to throw for 184.7 yards passing per game with 15 touchdowns. CMU QBs also combined to rush for 12 touchdowns and 585 yards.
"We've got a fantastic quarterbacks room," Head Coach Jim McElwain said. "Bert Emanuel has taken snaps and is coming back. Joe Labas has done a fantastic job of picking it up, first in spring ball, and all of sudden, he has really taken off. I also feel real good about the other guys in that room. I think we are going to be fun to watch. There are some things that are going to happen that people are going to go, 'huh, that's pretty cool.' That's why I feel really good about it."

He was named the MAC's "best scrambler" by Lindy's Magazine and has four career runs of over 60 yards. Joe Labas joined the CMU quarterback room in January after spending the previous three seasons at Iowa. As a redshirt freshman at Iowa, he earned his first career start and first career game action while leading the Hawkeyes to a 21-0 Music City Bowl win over Kentucky in Nashville, Tenn. In the game, he completed 14 of 24 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown and gave Iowa a 7-0 lead on a key touchdown pass. A lefthanded thrower with a strong arm, Tyler Jefferson earned a redshirt in 2023 after seeing action in two games. He was listed on the depth chart as a true freshman last year after passing for 1,081 yards and nine touchdowns as a high school senior.
Another strong-armed quarterback, true freshman Jadyn Glasser enrolled early at Central Michigan in January and saw action during CMU's spring practices. He has impressed in his first several months with the Chippewas after he led Venice Senior H.S. to 12 straight wins and Florida's Class 4S Suburban title as a senior. As a senior, he threw for 2,689 yards and 28 touchdowns and was responsible for 32 total touchdowns.
The tallest quarterback is true freshman Logan Borodychuk, a local Mount Pleasant product, who earned two Division 3 First Team All-State honors at Mount Pleasant High School. Borodychuk threw for over 4,000 yards in his career and led the Oilers to back-to-back state playoff appearances.
Redshirt freshman Ethan Lane is in his second season on the roster after leading national power Basha High School (Ariz.) to a top-25 national ranking as a senior.
