Football's Tristan Mattson Earns MAC Special Teams Player of the Week Honor

Senior Tristan Mattson converts game-winning 46-yard field goal with five seconds to give Central Michigan a come-from-behind 22-21 win over San Diego State; scores 10 points on 3-3 field goals.
CLEVELAND, Ohio—Central Michigan senior placekicker Tristan Mattson was named the co-Mid-American Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. Mattson is CMU's second MAC weekly honoree of the year as running back B.J. Harris earned the co-Offensive Player of the Week honor last week.
On Saturday afternoon, Mattson converted a 46-yard field goal to win the game with five seconds to play, giving CMU a 22-21 come-from-behind home victory over San Diego State. He concluded the day with 10 points and converted field goals of 25, 34, and 46 yards. He has now converted a career-best seven consecutive field goals, is 8-9 on field goals for the season, and 15-23 in his career. He has also hit three game-winning field goals in his career.
A Clarkston, Mich. native, Mattson ranks No. 18 on CMU's career PATs made list (44-47), No. 15 on CMU's career field goals made list (15), and No. 20 on CMU's career PAT percentage list (.936, 44-47). On kickoffs, Mattson has 24 touchbacks in 27 kickoffs in 2024 and 46 touchbacks in 79 career kickoffs. With a 58-yard field goal against Akron on Oct. 14, 2023, Mattson set the school record for longest field goal in school history, stadium history, and longest field goal in the MAC in 2023.
Central Michigan (3-2, 1-0 MAC) is off this week. The Chippewas are next in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when it hosts Ohio (3-2, 1-0 MAC) for its 2024 Homecoming Game. Kickoff is TBA.
