Volleyball Grabs Two More Wins to Stay Undefeated

The Chippewa Volleyball team defeated UAlbany and FDU both 3-1 in the opening day of the UAlbany Invitational
Albany N.Y. — Central Michigan Volleyball opened their weekend at the UAlbany Invitational with two 3-1 wins over both UAlbany and FDU. The Chippewas were led by Krystina Kasson who killed 25 balls (.258). The Chippewas move to 5-0 a record on the 2024 season, their best start since 2019. The team will close the tournament out on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they take on Iona.
The first match of the day went to the Chippewas, 3-1 (25-18 22-25, 25-20, 25-20). Central Michigan was led by senior right-side, Krystina Kasson who charted 14 kills (.297) and Abby Olin who killed 13 balls hitting .600 in that first match. Onlin added two solo blocks and three block assists, totaling her at 18.5 points scored for the four sets.
Central Michigan hit .216 as a team in the first match, ending strong hitting .316 and .375 in the third and fourth sets, respectively.
The Chippewa defense held the Great Danes to just a .098 hitting percentage and CMU charted 7 aces in the four-set game. Natalia Rejment led the team in digs with 18 and she added 11 kills herself, charting her third double-double of the season.
Junior setter Allie Korba notched 28 assists in the match, marking a career high. Korba and Keelyn Muell, as a setter duo recorded 48 of the teams' 55 assists in the victory over the Great Danes.
Match two for the day was another 3-1 victory for the Chippewas (25-22, 25-17, 14-25, 25-16). Kasson again led the Chippewas offensively with 11 kills and Grace Thomas followed with 10. Thomas charted three block assists in the nightcap, bringing her total with the two games to 8.
Freshman Izzy Swiercz found some rhythm in the match against FDU, killing four balls (.444) – the freshman class continues to be a source of success for the Chippewas. Hannah Langton dug 22 balls in the four-set match and Maggie Uhwat recorded her first collegiate kill.
CMU closed the match hitting .297 in the fourth set of the offensively slow match. The Chippewas however, recorded 11 service aces, Abby Olin and Keelyn Muell recorded three each against the Knights.
Central Michigan will close out the tournament playing Iona on Saturday morning before returning home for the Chippewa Invitational, September 13th and 14th.
