LaPoint tallied eight saves in CMU’s final home nonconference bout
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Soccer dropped its final home non-leaguer to Wis.-Green Bay, 1-0, Sunday.
Â
The Chippewas were held upright by senior keeper Allison LaPoint (Royal Oak, Mich. / Shrine Catholic) who thwarted away the first seven shots on-goal by the Phoenix before having the seal broken at the start of the 78th minute. LaPoint added one more stop in the 86th minute for eight on the day, up to 230 for her career.
Â
Despite a narrow margin in total shots, 14-13 for Green Bay, the Phoenix held a notable 9-5 advantage in on-target attempts though multiple were on-frame crosses easily handled by LaPoint.
Â
Lauren Walker (Essexville, Mich. / Garber) took the strongest of CMU's five on-target shots in the 63rd minute as Ashley Scesniak (Hoffman Estates, Ill. / William Fremd) headed back a weakly-cleared ball outside the 18' to Cece Mernatti (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) who then redirected it to Walker. All three mentioned earned a shot on-goal in the contest.
Â
Central Michigan Soccer concludes the 2024 nonconference schedule Wednesday (Sept. 11) at Purdue Fort Wayne for a 4 p.m. kickoff. The 2024 Mid-American Conference schedule opens Sept. 19 at Eastern Michigan.
