Linebacker Jordan Kwiatkowski is the MAC Defensive Player of the Week following his 14-tackle, 2.5 tackle for loss and momentum changing interception and return in Central Michigan’s 27-6 win at Bowling Green.
CLEVELAND, Ohio—Central Michigan senior linebacker Jordan Kwiatkowski was named the Mid-American Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning. Kwiatkowski is Central Michigan's first MAC weekly honoree of the year and becomes the first Central Michigan player to earn the MAC Defensive Player of the Week honor since Oct. 2, 2023.
In Central Michigan's 27-6 victory at Bowling Green, Kwiatkowski turned momentum in the Chippewas' favor when he intercepted a pass and ran 26 yards down the BGSU 1-yard line. His play set up CMU's first touchdown of the game and gave the Chippewas the lead that it would not surrender. It marked his third career interception and second of the season. He finished the game with a season-high 14 tackles (seven solo) for his second consecutive 10-plus tackle game and eighth of his career. He also tied a career-high with 2.5 tackles for loss and broke up a pass.
He led CMU's defense that prevented Bowling Green from scoring a touchdown. The six points and no touchdowns allowed were the fewest points and fewest touchdowns yielded by Central Michigan since the Chippewas shutout Bucknell 41-0 on Sept. 17, 2022.
A Sterling Heights, Mich. native, Kwiatkowski leads the Chippewas in tackles (53), solo tackles (23), interceptions (2) and ranks second in tackles for loss (3.5-7 yards) and pass breakups (3).
A team captain and All-MAC player in 2024, Kwiatkowski has made 191 tackles (92 solo), 18.0 tackles for loss for 38 yards, intercepted three passes, broke up seven passes and blocked a kick in his four-year, 41-game and 14-start career at Central Michigan.
Central Michigan (4-3, 2-1 MAC) hosts Massachusetts (0-7, 0-3 MAC) for its 2025 Homecoming game on Saturday at Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET for a game streamed on ESPN+.
