Linebacker Jordan Kwiatkowski takes home the MAC honor for the second time this year after finishing with 14 tackles, a career-high 4.5 tackles for loss, and his second forced fumble in as many games as the Chippewas defeated Kent State 28-16.
CLEVELAND, Ohio—For the second time this season, Central Michigan senior linebacker Jordan Kwiatkowski was named the Mid-American Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week honor, the league office announced Monday morning.
Central Michigan players have now been named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time as senior Michael Heldman took home the honor last week and Kwiatkowski previously earned the award on Oct. 20. Kwiatkowski becomes Central Michigan's first two-time winner in the same season since linebacker Michael Oliver in 2019.
In Central Michigan's 28-16 win at Kent State, Jordan Kwiatkowski led the Chippewas with 14 tackles, a career-high 4.5 tackles for loss for 24 yards, a forced fumble and a sack for 12 yards. His 4.5 tackles for loss ranks tied for No. 11 all-time in school history. Registered his second forced fumble in as many games and it marked his 10th career 10-plus tackle game. The 14 tackles were also one shy of Kwiatkowski's career high, when he made 15 vs. Ball State on Sept. 21, 2014.
A Sterling Heights, Mich. native, Kwiatkowski leads the Chippewas in tackles (96), solo tackles (42), assisted tackles (54), interceptions (3), forced fumbles (2), and 10-plus tackle games (5). He ranks No. 2 on the squad in tackles for loss (10.5-41), and pass breakups (4). In MAC statistics, he ranks No. 5 in tackles (8.7 per game), No. 9 in tackles for loss (0.95 per game), No. 13 in passes defended (0.64), No. 5 in interceptions (3), and No. 11 in forced fumbles (2). In his four-year, 45-game career, Kwiatkowski has made 234 total tackles (111 solo), 25.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, intercepted four passes, deflected eight passes, forced two fumbles, and has 10 10-plus tackle games. An All-MAC selection last year, Kwiatkowski is one of four Central Michigan team captains.
Bowl eligible and second-place Central Michigan (7-4, 5-2 MAC) plays its final regular season game on Saturday, Nov. 29 when it hosts second-place Toledo (7-4, 5-2 MAC) for Senior Day at Noon at Kramer/Deromedi Field. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
