MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Fifteen Central Michigan student-athletes were honored on Sunday morning in a graduation celebration ceremony organized by the athletics department in the John G. Kulhavi Events Center atrium.
"You truly are ambassadors for our university," Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said as she addressed those in attendance, including the graduates, family members and friends.
"I challenge you to always be a part of this community. This will always be your home. This will always be a part of your legacy. You now become one of our 250,000 alums and that footprint is very impressive. All of you have been leaders here on campus and I'm so excited for that because I know the best is yet to come. Make sure that this isn't the biggest thing that you do. Go out and take the tools that you have learned and work to make a bigger and better impact."
The student-athletes will be presented their respective diplomas next week during the university's graduation ceremony in McGuirk Arena. On Sunday, each was presented their gold stole which is to be worn along with their cap and gown during the graduation ceremony.
Central Michigan President Neil MacKinnon was in attendance, spoke to the assembled crowd, and presented student-athletes with their stoles. Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Kelly Murphy also addressed the gathering.
The 15 student-athletes who received their stoles included baseball player Bryson Webb; field hockey players Coletta Beeler, Simone Potgieter, and Chloe Ward; football players Kalen Carroll, Jonathan Decker, Angel Flores, Elijah Gordon, Joe Labas, Cairo Rhodes, Elijah Rikard; gymnast Hannah Appleget; soccer player Brook Carroll; and track and field athletes Emily McLean and Libby Munderloh.
