Chippewa Golfers Fall Twice to Begin 2025

Central Michigan Men’s Golf look to improve Tuesday against Evansville
DADE CITY, Fla. – The Central Michigan Men's Golf team began the second half of their season Monday, playing their first two rounds of The Match Play Tournament in Dade City, Fla., hosted by Ball State University.
In their opening match, the Chippewas fell 6-0 to the University of Richmond. The Chippewas were led by Orlando Coons, who suffered a 1Up loss after shooting a 69 (-3), which included three birdies in the span of five holes.
Easton Phillips came to a 3&2 loss after shooting a 65 (+1), while Jeffrey Andrus logged a 5&3 loss with a round of 65 (+5), Keith Hunter carded 62 (+3) for a 4&3 loss, Nicholas Kilgore experienced a 7&6 loss logging 52 (+4). Rounding out the Chippewas' initial card was Jeffery Sager logging a 6&5 loss, shooting 55 (+1).
Central Michigan wrapped up the day with a close 3.5-2.5 loss to Bowling Green State University.
Sager led the Chippewas' effort with a 6&4 win through 14 holes, shooting a 53 (-5), highlighted by an eagle on hole 11. Hunter collected Central Michigan's second point of the day with a 3&1 win in 17 holes, logging a 68 (+1).
Coons added half a point in a 16-hole tie with an even par score of 65.
Phillips dropped a 4&3 loss, shooting 64 (+4), while Andrus came to a 6&5 loss tallying a 54 (+2). Kilgore rounded out the card with a 5&4 loss posting a 67 (+11).
The Chippewas will return Tuesday in Dade City for the final round of The Match Play, teeing off at 9 a.m. against the University of Evansville.
