Chippewas close season-opening series on Sunday (1:30 p.m. ET)
The teams are scheduled to play the finale of their four-game season-opening series on Sunday (1:30 p.m. ET).
Spencer Verburg doubled and Elijah Henning and Carter Campau each singled for the Chippewas (1-2), who committed four errors. Seven of Houston Christian's runs were unearned.
The Huskies built a 9-0 lead through two innings. Eight of the runs were charged to CMU starter Hayden Bailey, who allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out three in one inning in taking the loss.
Justin Morgan, Trevor Busyn, Jack Smith and Dean Brown worked in relief for CMU.
The Chippewas scored all three of their runs in the ninth inning, the first on a Campau grounder and the other two on a Verburg sacrifice fly.
Ben Smith allowed just one hit and struck out four over six innings for the victory.
