Central Michigan rallies late with its rematch with North Texas but ultimately falls short to the Mean Green.

TROY, Ala. – The Central Michigan softball team departs its season opening Alabama trip after finishing 1-4 on the weekend at the Troy Trojan Classic. The Chippewas dropped the final game of the road trip to North Texas in a 6-3 decision.

North Texas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and later grabbed another run in the third.

Central Michigan responded with a three-run fifth inning, but the Mean Green also posted three in the fifth to reach the final score.

In the fifth inning, Emma Lotus started the offense off when she reached on a catcher's interference. A straight steal for the sophomore then landed her on second base. Freshman Maddison Diekman took first on a walk, her sixth of the weekend. Tori Briggs, another freshman, reached when she beat out a ground ball to the shortstop to load the bases. The first run for CMU came from a sacrifice fly from Carly Sleeman and Lotus scored. Freshman Jenna Kuzara also beat out a grounder to the shortstop to load the bases once again for the Chippewas. Allyssa Hollo collected her second hit of the day with an RBI single to left field scoring Diekman.

The final run of the day for CMU came from a Grace Koenig RBI to score Ashley Bila who entered as a pinch runner.

Mackenzie Langan earned the start for CMU and threw for 2.1 innings where she issued four hits, striking out two.

Cierra Laska took the circle in the third where she inherited a bases loaded situation. Laska threw two complete innings before she was relieved by Brooklyn Compau.

Compau finished the game issuing two hits with one run.

Central Michigan takes the next week off from competition before it heads to North Carolina State on February 21 to play Illinois and Northern Colorado in the Marucci Classic.
