Baseball Drops Opener of Two-Game Series at Marshall

The Chippewas (2-14) and Thundering Herd (10-6) are scheduled to complete their two-game series on Wednesday (5 p.m.).
CMU scored all five of its runs in the second inning in seizing a 5-4 lead. They used two hits, three hit batters, two walks, and a two-run sacrifice fly by Aaron Piasecki to score their runs.
The Thundering Herd twice in the fourth to go on top, 6-5, and then got back-to-back home runs during a three-run fifth to extend their lead to 9-5.
Cayden Smith doubled and Nathan Ball had an RBI single to lead the Chippewas at the plate.
Liam Stumpf started and went 3 1/3 innings in taking the loss for CMU. He allowed six runs on four hits, walked four and struck out one.
Hayden Bailey, Justin Morgan and Jack Smith pitched in relief.
CMU pitching issued eight walks and the Chippewas committed four errors.
