CMU’s defensive anchor had a career week with all-time efforts on the draw, scored second career goal in conference-opener
CLEVELAND — Senior Jozy Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio / Sycamore) was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Mid-American Conference. Tuesday's announcement marked her first career MAC weekly honor.
Â
The two-time all-conference honoree tied the program's record with 15 draw controls collected in the 14-13 thriller at Canisius last Wednesday, then followed it with 11 more in the conference opener against Kent State Sunday. The week marked her first two career double-digit performances on the draw, as her previous best was nine.
Â
Allen also produced on the offensive end for the second time in her career as she turned a draw control directly into a goal in the middle of a three-goal CMU rally that forced overtime against the Golden Flashes.
Â
She also provided her standard quality in the defensive third, ceding just one goal to her matchup in each contest, causing three turnovers and collecting four ground balls.
Â
The Cincinnati, Ohio-native is second for career caused turnovers (66) at CMU, fourth in draw controls (134). Her five takeaways at Niagara (March 9) tied for second for a single game to go with tying the draw controls record against the Golden Griffins. Allen currently ranks atop the per-game average lists for single-season draw controls (6.88) and third in caused turnovers (1.50).
Â
Allen is the second Chippewa to earn a weekly laurel from the league this season, as senior Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) earned the second week's goalkeeper honor.
Â
Central Michigan Lacrosse heads to Akron for its next MAC bout Sunday at Noon ET. The Chippewas return to host Eastern Michigan the following Sunday, also a Noon ET first draw.
