Borgman adds another seven saves for 15 on her debut weekend
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Soccer fell to Loyola Chicago, 1-0, at the CMU Soccer Complex Sunday.
Â
Junior keeper Brylee Borgman (Norton Shores, Mich. / Mona Shores) tallied seven saves to mark 15 in her first two appearances on the pitch for the Chippewas.
Â
CMU showed offensive progress from Thursday's outing with four on-target attempts, including two key chances in the second half, one just three minutes from Loyola's deciding score.
Â
The Chippewas' best opportunity came from an opportunity from the corner that landed behind the crowd in the 6' though Grace Baczek's (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) attempt was collected quickly by the Rambler's keeper in the 75th minute.
Â
Gabriella Sapia (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) gets the uncredited team save in the minute prior to Baczek's set piece attempt as Borgman protected the near post on a Loyola run. Borgman's leap for the ensuing shot left her just short of the attempt, though Sapia was in position to clean up.
Â
Olivia Bretz (Lexington, Ky. / Lexington Catholic) tallied both on-target attempts for the Chippewas in the first half, both times stressing the keeper via long-range free kicks.
Â
CMU Soccer hits the road for three straight before returning to Mount Pleasant Sept. 11 to host Wright State. The Chippewas visit Wisconsin (Aug. 21), Cincinnati (Aug. 28) and South Dakota (Sept. 7).
