Kershaw takes over in goal for CMU debut; a sixth true freshman logs a start in the season’s third outing
MADISON, Wis. — Central Michigan Soccer fell to No. 21 Wisconsin, 4-0, Thursday in the program's first appearance at the McClimon Complex since the Chippewas took home a 2-1 result during the 2011 campaign.
Rachel Jackson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) and Grace Cameron (Clio, Mich. / Flint Powers) each posted an on-target attempt in the match. Cameron's proved to be the strongest opportunity for the Chippewas, firing from well inside the 6' from the right post in the 35th minute.
Transfer keeper Jadia Kershaw (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy Orange) got the nod between the posts collecting five first-half saves.
CMU made more adjustments to the starting lineup as Sofia Spano (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills) became the sixth of a seven-member true freshmen group to earn a start already this season and Jordan Bailey (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) made her first start as a Chippewa after transferring in prior to the 2024 campaign.
The Chippewas' drought against Big Ten Conference opponents was extended to eight straight since defeating Michigan State, 2-1, in 2016.
Central Michigan Women's Soccer stays on the road to battle revenge-minded Cincinnati (Aug. 28) as the Bearcats fell, 2-1, at the CMU Soccer Complex last season.
