Chanticleers ride momentum from strong showing at Florida Thursday night; Chippewas fall, 2-0, in a split of their Southern weekend

CONWAY, S.C. — Central Michigan Soccer dropped a 2-0 result to Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon to finish it's Southern weekend.

Senior keeper Jadia Kershaw (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy Orange) posted a career-high nine saves in the effort, tying her previous career mark of six by halftime.

The Chippewas return to Mount Pleasant for a three-match home opening stretch Thursday to host Purdue Fort Wayne (Aug. 27), followed by Cincinnati (Sept. 3) and Wisconsin (Sept. 6) the following week.

CMU does not hit the road again until Sept. 13 with a visit to Butler.

The Chanticleer offense rode the momentum earned from a two-goal performance at Florida, though CCU walked away with a 3-2 loss to the Gators Thursday night.

CMU was outshot, 13-2, in the first half, leading to the 2-0 score at halftime that carried to the finish. Coastal Carolina finished with advantages of 21-6 in attempts (11-1 on-goal) and 9-4 in corner kicks.

Melaina Troy (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) was quick to respond to Coastal Carolina's first goal (15^th minute) with an on-target strike of her own tucked just inside the left post—only to be gathered in.

The Chippewas defeated Charleston Southern, 3-2, to earn a split of their weekend trip.
