Volleyball Drops Two on Opening Day in Milwaukee

Central Michigan fell to Iowa State and South Alabama in the first day of the Panther Invitational.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Central Michigan Volleyball team fell in both matches on the first day of the Panther Invitational in Milwaukee. CMU moves to 1-4 on the season, and Iowa State shifts to 3-0, while South Alabama moves to 1-2.
Central Michigan dropped the first set to the Cyclones, 11-25, gave great effort in the second set, falling 18-25 and then dropped the final set of the match 14-25.
In the first match of the day, CMU was led by Taylor Cripe with 12 kills, hitting .480 on the outside. Abby Olin charted two of the three blocks for CMU, with a solo and a block assist with Grace Thomas.
Alina Anderson and Cripe both dug five balls, and Keelyn Muell had an ace, Molly Beatty assisted on 17 balls for the Chippewas. CMU hit .129 in the match, opposed to the .462 by the Cyclones.
In the night cap, CMU fell to South Alabama, 1-3.
The first set went to South Alabama, 16-25. CMU came out with a strong purpose in set two and forced the Jaguars to take both of their timeouts before they had scored five points.
A 25-13 win for the Chippewas in the second set ended with them hitting .529 in the set, holding USA to just .121.
The third set of the second match went to USA,18-25. USA won the match in the fourth set, when they took the tough victory over CMU, 25-22.
The Chippewas were led offensively by Izzy Swiercz, who hit .357 with 10 kills. Abby Olin added six blocks in the middle, four of which were solo, and Hannah Langton dug 11 balls.
Molly Beatty charted 22 assists, Keelyn Muell 16 and the Chippewas hit .190 as a team.
Central Michigan will close out the tournament on Saturday afternoon when it takes on host, Milwaukee at noon (ET). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
