Chippewas Set Four Personal Bests to Kick-off Meyo Invitational

Garland advances to 60m finals; Richards to 60m-hurdles finals
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Central Michigan Track & Field traveled to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational Friday to open the two-day meet. CMU posted four personal bests and a top three finish and were anchored by it's sprint and jumps teams.
Linnearia Richards kicked off her day with a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles qualifier with a time of 8.72 seconds. The fourth-place finish earned her a spot in the 60m-hurdles finals slated to take place Saturday. Richards capped off her day with a personal-best of 5.54m in the long jump to secure seventh place in the event.
Sophia Garland took third place in the 200m with a finishing time of 25.04 seconds. Andrea Merin logged a personal best of 25.38 seconds in the 200m, good for a 14th place finish.
Sophia Garland added to the Chippewas' sprint team success with a 7.72 finish in the 60m, her fourth-place finish secured a spot in the 60m finals, to be ran Saturday.
It was a great day for our sprints and jumps groups, Director of Cross/Country Track and Field Jenny Swieton said. Sophia (Garland) is continuing to make steady progress in the 60 and the 200, Linn (Linnearia Richards) is moving on in the hurdles and jumped well, and Andrea had a big season best in the 200. Libby (Munderloh) really committed to the race in the 600, and that paid off with a big PR.
Libby Munderloh took home eighth in the 600m with a time of 1:35.02 and setting a personal best in the process. It was her second consecutive time setting a personal best in the event.
Victoria Merrick led the throwers Friday night, posting a 13.27m for 12th place in the shot put.
Logan Brazee and Emma Netzel ended the Chippewas day with the 5000m. Brazee set a personal best of 17:56.75, for 42nd with Netzel finishing just behind at 43rd with 18:02.14.
We're really excited to see what tomorrow brings, Swieton said. There's a lot to look forward to.
The Chippewas will close out the meet Saturday with the 3000m kicking off at 10:20 a.m. Following the mile will be the 400m, 800m, 60m finals, 60m-hurdles finals, weight throw, pole vault, and will conclude with the 4x400m.
