Chippewas fall, 19-13, in high-scoring affair; five players produce multi-goal performances
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Sophomore Julia Werner (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) and freshman Mia Bradley (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) combined for seven goals in Central Michigan Lacrosse's 19-13 loss at Lindenwood Saturday afternoon.
Â
Both Chippewas marked their first career hat trick in the performance as 10 of CMU's 13 goals were scored by either a sophomore or a freshman in the contest.
Â
Werner completed her hat trick with over 10 minutes left in the second quarter, with a fourth to cap Central Michigan's scoring. Bradley scored twice in less than 60 seconds to mark her trifecta late in the third.
Â
Caye Kalbacher (Austin, Texas / Stephen F. Austin) led CMU with five points between a pair of goals and a career-high three assists. The sophomore remains the team's leader with seven goals while tied with Bradley with 11 points.
Â
Kelsey Barratt (Voorhess, N.J. / Eastern) rounded out the multi-goal Chippewa quartet with a pair while Amelia Sarap (Granville, Ohio / Granville) recorded her first career multi-assist game (2) to go with her first goal of the season.
Â
Marisa Rosner (Frankfort, Ill. / Marist) became the second rookie to find the back of the net this season in the fourth quarter, marking Sarap's second assist in the process.
Â
Central Michigan won the turnover battle, 14-11, though the key factor to the result was a 24-9 advantage for Lindenwood in the draw circle. Kalbacher shared the team high of three with Isabella Bainbridge (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) while Stella Hensley (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central) nabbed a pair.
Â
Chippewa Lacrosse faces No. 6/5 Michigan Friday (March 6, 4 p.m. ET) in Ann Arbor followed by Butler Sunday (March 8, Noon ET) in Indianapolis before the home and Mid-American Conference schedules open March 14 against Robert Morris.
