Softball Ends Tennessee Trip with Walk-off Win, 5-4

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Central Michigan Softball's final game in Tennessee ended in an exciting 5-4 walk-off win over Southern Indianan for the Chippewas on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Chippewas improve to 7-8 on the season while SIU falls to 3-14 overall.
CMU concludes its preseason with a trip to Madiera Beach, Fla. to play USC Upstate in two double headers on March 6 and 8.
Southern Indiana scored first in the game with two runs in the top of the third inning. The Screaming Eagles charted their runs via a triple to right field and an RBI fielder's choice.
The Chippewas responded in the fourth inning when Keira Tolmie drove in Ashley Bila on an RBI single to center field. Bila reached base via a bunt single to the pitcher. Cierra Laska then scored the second run of the inning with an RBI single to first base from Angela Petrovitch. After four innings, the game was tied 2-2.
Central Michigan added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI from Emma Lotus after she grounded out to the shortstop and London Williams scored. Williams reached via walk. CMU scored its fourth run scored on an RBI single from Bila to left field, which scored Kuzara after she reached on a fielder's choice.
USI answered in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single and another run scored on a fielder's choice to the Chippewa shortstop. With the score tied at 4-4 in the sixth inning, Cierra Laska entered the game and replaced starter Brooklyn Compau..
Laska would ultimately notch her first win of the season for Central Michigan when the Chippewas scored the winning run on a wild pitch, and Emma Lotus crossed the plate. Lotus started the bottom of the seventh with a single through the left side of the infield.
Compau pitched 5.1 innings for the Chippewas collecting a season high eight strikeouts allowing four hits and two walks.
The Chippewas totaled eight hits in the final game of the tournament, two each from Petrovitch and Bila. Tolmie, Lotus, Bila and Petrovitch all recorded RBI on four of the five runs scored. Kuzara charted her ninth double of the season in the outing.
