Track & Field Wraps Up Home Schedule with Chippewa Challenge

Chippewas win 10 events, post 33 podium finishes.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Track & Field hosted the Chippewa Challenge Saturday afternoon. The Chippewas won 10 events, took each of the top three positions in two, and set eight personal records.
"It was a lot of fun to compete at home, we had a beautiful day for it," Central Michigan Director of Track & Field Jenny Swieton said, "We had some great performances that set us up well for the rest of the season."
Victoria Merrick kicked off the Chippewas' day with the javelin throw, where she secured second place with a 31.38m mark on her first attempt.
Central Michigan went on to sweep the 1500m with Maya Guikema setting a personal best of 4:32.73 for first overall, Eva Thompson taking second place at 4:34.27, and Kyah Hoffman taking third place at 4:35.84. The Chippewas additionally took fourth and fifth place in the event with Grace VanderKooi recording a 4:39.07 finish in her first time running the event. Kate Jenkins took fifth with a personal best time of 4:39.10.
Linnearia Richards won the 100m-H, with a 14.25 second finish. Ciara Rosenzweig accompanied Richards, taking fifth place with a 15.44 second mark. Richards earned her second event win of the day with a personal best of 5.62m in the long jump. Hailey Hill took second place in the long jump with a 5.18m mark.
Four Chippewas' competed in the 100m dash, each qualifying for the event's finals. The four Chippewas went on to take four of the top five positions, with Sophia Garland leading the way. Garland won the event with a 12.05 finish and was trailed by Ella Sweatt in second place (12.29), Andrea Merin in third (12.31) and Mireya Benjamin in fifth (12.43).
Riley Nielsen and Jane Paddock took the top two positions in the pole vault. Nielsen cleared 3.61m on her second attempt, while Paddock cleared 3.46m on her third vault.
Libby Munderloh got the job done with a first-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a 1:03.98 second finishing time.
Emily McLean and Merrick each found the top-three in the shot put. McLean led the field with a 13.98m showing on her fifth attempt. Merrick reached 12.7m for second place on her second attempt.
The Chippewas cruised through the 800m taking six of the top 10 positions. Lois Creasey and Guikema took first and third in the event, Creasey marked a 2:16.92 while Guikema posted a career best 2:17.86. Rounding out the top-five were Thompson in fourth with a 2:18.76, and VanderKooi with a 2:19.24. Olivia East and Kate Jenkins took eighth and ninth, with Jenkins posting a career best 2:21.67.
Ava Teed and Logan Brazee represented the Chippewas in the 3k and took first and second in the event. In Teed's first collegiate 3k, she posted a 10:25.24 finishing time, while Brazee set a new personal best of 10:26.56.
Central Michigan ended their day strong, winning the 4x400m in 4:01:99. The team consisted of Creasey, Olivea East, Grace Jenkins, and Munderloh.
Up next, Chippewa Track & Field will travel to Hillsdale for the Hillsdale Gina Relays, and to Winston Salem, N.C. for the Wake Forest Invitational.
