Volleyball Falls in Final Game of Washington Trip

The Chippewas ended the Cougar Invitational on Sunday afternoon before heading home to host the Heart of the Mitt Invitational in McGuirk Arena.
PULLMAN, Wash. – Central Michigan dropped the final game of the Cougar Invitational to the host, Washington State, on Sunday afternoon.
CMU lost the sets 18-25, 15-25 and 18-25.
Taylor Cripe led the offense for the third straight night with 11 kills.
How it happened
Central Michigan took an early timeout in the first set, down 1-4 to the Cougars. The Chippewas trailed 5-10 at one point in the match but found themselves back to a 4-point match with back-to-back points from Brenna Storz; 10-14.
Teyhlor Thomas charted a loud solo block bringing the score to 12-19 and Coach Wilson used her second timeout of the set to shift momentum.
A long discussion between the officials and the teams took place at the 14-23 mark, where the Chippewas were ultimately called out of rotation.
Out of the timeout, CMU scored back-to-back points with a service error from the Cougars and Jaliyah Cohnes recorded her first ace of the season.
The Chippewas went on a 5-0 run with Cecilia Bustamante at the line but dropped the first set 18-25.
CMU scored the first two points of the second set with Cripe grabbing one via kill.
The Cougars went on two 3-0 runs, broken up by a single point by the Chippewas, taking a 6-10 lead and forcing Coach Wilson to take a timeout.
Brytn Lyon charted an ace, Thomas grabbed another solo block, and CMU was back within two of the Cougars; 10-12.
Washington State went on a 7-0 run and forced the Chippewas into a timeout in set two. Three more points after the timeout for the Cougars made it a 10-0 run before an attack error ended the streak.
CMU dropped the second set to Washington State 15-25.
In the third set, CMU called a timeout down 9-10 after back-to-back aces from a Cougar at the service line.
CMU trailed 12-15 at the media timeout of the third set.
Coach Arielle Wilson called the final timeout of the third set trialing 19-12.
The Chippewas ultimately dropped the final set 18-25.
Next, Central Michigan will play in McGuirk Arena hosting the Heart of the Mitt Invitational. The stretch of four home games will begin on Wednesday, September 2nd against Oakland. The match is slated to start at 6 p.m.
